Why TinyTRA Is Not Running a Slate — And What We're Doing Instead

As Tiny Township approaches its next election, TinyTRA is taking a different path—choosing not to run a slate, but to strengthen democracy instead. Through tiny2026.com, we’re creating a transparent, community-driven platform that gives independent candidates a fair voice and residents the information they need to make informed choices. It’s not about teams or factions—it’s about restoring trust, reducing division, and letting the best candidates stand on their own merits.

As the next municipal election approaches, some in our community have suggested that the only way to "win back" Tiny Township is to organize and run a slate of candidates — one team to replace another. It's an understandable impulse.

But when a coordinated bloc replaces independent voices at the council table, debate gives way to predetermined outcomes and public input becomes a formality. Residents are left feeling like decisions were made before anyone walked in the door. Most of us, regardless of where we stand, can agree that's not good enough.

Running another slate in opposition would simply repeat this pattern. The names might change, but the democratic deficit would remain.

That's why TinyTRA is not running a slate. We believe in participatory democracy — in citizens who speak up, candidates who stand on their own convictions, and a council that governs by collaboration, not calculation.

So What Are We Doing?

We've built tiny2026.com — a community platform designed to change how this election works, for candidates and voters alike.

If You're Thinking About Running

Many capable people never run for local office because they don't know where to start, lack name recognition, or worry about what running might cost them personally. tiny2026.com lowers those barriers without compromising your independence.

Through the process, you'll introduce yourself to voters early, share your values in your own words, and sit for a recorded podcast interview — published in full, completely unedited. TinyTRA doesn't pick winners. We give every participant fair exposure and let the community decide.

If You Want to Vote With Confidence

Most residents only hear about candidates in the final weeks of a campaign, when there's barely time to make an informed choice. tiny2026.com lets you follow candidates as they emerge, read their published values and questionnaires, watch their interviews, and participate in Entrance Polls before the formal election period even begins.

It's not about choosing a team. It's about making sure the best people win on their own merits.

Open to All Residents of Tiny Township

TinyTRA membership is not required. This process is open to every resident of Tiny Township. If you are already a TinyTRA member, you're automatically registered to participate — no additional sign-up needed.

Please share this with anyone who's ever thought about running for council, or anyone who's ever walked away from the ballot box wishing they knew more. That's exactly who this was built for.

One important note for potential candidates: registering at tiny2026.com is separate from the official Township of Tiny candidate registration process. Formal candidate registration opens after May 1st, 2026.

Built on Transparency

TinyTRA has registered as a not-for-profit operating in full compliance with the Ontario Elections Act and the Election Finances Act. Our committee, our process, our governance, and our compliance documentation are all publicly available at tiny2026.com/about. Everything we do is transparent and in the open — because that's the only way we know how to do it.

For Tiny Township.
